Love this book!

Do you like to read? I sure do, and if I'm not reading a book I'm looking for one. The book pictured here I discovered while up north on a vacation with my husband. There was a new art supply store downtown in East Tawas that I had read about. It was the kind of place where there are several little businesses occupying adjacent open spaces down a hallway in a building. I LOVE art supply anything, so I made it a point to go there. The book caught my eye right away, but I wandered around looking at sketchbooks, colored pencils, paint, paintbrushes, paint sticks, etc., then came back to the book. Being an art person, it was the colorful cover that caught my eye. And amazingly, all of the many photos in the book are in color as well, which I love. (I have some art books at home that have only black and white photos. Seriously? It just doesn't do the job).

This book is organized and easy to follow. The first section is all about different mixed media techniques, the author calls it "Getting Messy". It's my favorite part. She includes step by step color pictures, which makes the processes very easy to follow, and her brief explanations are easy to understand. What's amazing is that she manages to cover a lot of different of techniques in just a few pages, without overwhelming the reader.

The second section is "Sketchbook-style and Bullet Journaling". It's done in the same fashion as the first section, lots of step by step color pictures with brief easy to understand explanations. And as if that wasn't enough, in this same section the author includes explanations of how to draw different ways, where to get inspiration, and even different types of lettering. In my opinion, it's a wonderful book!

But here's something you might find strange: Everything in this book is things that I have already done or taught! So why would I want this book? I think because it validates who I am and what I love to do. And it is very inspiring! I love everything in it, and I feel like I am a kindred spirit with the author, Megan Wells, because her personality pops out in her explanations.

So who might this book be for?

  • Someone who needs some inspiration in their art life.

  • Someone who is just beginning their art journey and wants to try different techniques and processes.

  • An art teacher who needs some great plans for her students.

  • Someone preparing to be an art teacher and needs ideas.

  • Someone who has done all these things but wants to do them again, over and over!

  • Anyone who is creative and wants to try new things.

With all this being said, I highly recommend this book. It is hard cover and was priced in this store at $14.95, well worth it in my opinion. At the time of this writing it is also available on amazon. (PS Megan Wells does not know me nor was I paid to write this. It's just that when I'm excited about something I want to share that excitement with you!)

So what is a great book you have read? I would love to hear about it, please feel free to share with me about it! (It doesn't have to be an art book)
